Golden Gate Canyon State Park - Slough Pond Loop

May 28, 2000

Distance (GPS):

3.2 miles

Elevation change:

876 feet

Hike time:

3 hours

Difficulty: Intense
Density: 0

This is probably the most difficult hike in the park. It's uphill, and pretty relentless. On the way back, it's equally relentless downhill. Most of the hike is fairly typical of Golden Gate. Some dense forest, some aspen groves, and meadows too. An 876 foot elevation gain isn't much, but in just over a mile, it will give you an idea of your condition. No picture of Shelter 1 here as it was occupied the morning I was there.
