Golden Gate Canyon State Park - Panorama Point to Rifleman Phillips

July 1, 2001

Distance (GPS):

6.34 miles

Distance (pedometer): 7.34 miles

Elevation change:

753 feet

Hike time:

4 hours, 15 minutes

Difficulty: Moderate
Density: 13 (+ two dogs)

This is a killer hike. Thought I was going to die on that last mile and a half. This is one of the few hikes in the park that involves a climb on the way out, so is not recommended if you are unsure of your mountain hiking abilities. When you're done with this one, you'll swear it was 80% uphill. No single part is bad, but stretched out over 7 miles, it will test your condition. Bring along plenty of water.

This hike will take you past two of Golden Gate Canyon SP's campgrounds and "Dude's Fishing Hole."
